There are a handful of common ways that misinformation tends to appear on social media. One of these ways is the presence of a false dichotomy.

A post that presents a false dichotomy makes a statement that only presents two choices when more exist. The argument is simplifying complex issues into two opposing sides. Typically, one option is favored by the poster and is compared to an option that is obviously undesirable.
